How to eat healthy while traveling
It’s summertime and some of us are planning on going away on vacation. You might be wondering, “How am I going to stick to the GOLO plan while away?” Here are some helpful tips!
- Plan, plan, plan- If you plan your meals and go shopping before-hand, you will not find yourself “stuck,” and therefore more likely to grab something convenient and unhealthy. Figure out what types of food that you want to bring with you and how much you will need. If you are flying to your destination, make a list of what you will need to buy once you get there. Also, dry foods are allowed to be taken on planes!
- Hotels- If you are staying at a hotel, make sure to book a room with a mini-fridge. This will allow you to bring perishable foods and will also save you money, because eating out adds up when you are on vacation! See how close the hotel you choose is to a grocery store if you need to make a stop or two during your trip.
- Road Trips- Luckily, there are appliances that are now available for travelers. Electric coolers, which plug into your car socket, are a great thing to bring when you are going to be in the car for long periods of time. To keep foods fresh, there are airtight and spill proof containers. You also have the options of ice packs for perishables.

Of course, there are going to be special occasions where eating in a restaurant is necessary. Luckily, GOLO has a Restaurant Card to help you navigate through all the choices and be able to stay on track! The important thing is not to stress out about it- where there’s a will, there’s a way. If you happen to have a meal off-plan it is not the end of the world! Enjoy yourself and jump back on the GOLO train at your next meal. The number one reason people have problems on vacation is that they give up after one meal and feel like they can’t get back on track. Just remember to start everyday with your GOLO breakfast and go from there! Going on a trip this summer? Have some good ideas for those who are? We would love to hear your tips in the comments!
